Viola Bows

My idea of a late Baroque ‘sonata’ bow. I would date it around 1740.
The stick, frog and button are snakewood. Weight: approx 55-59 grams.

Classical bow, c.1770, based on an original for violin.
The stick is ironwood, the frog and button are mastodon (mammoth tusk). Weight: 56-60 grams.

Modern bow after Peccatte with ironwood stick. Weight: 72-74 grams.
